KeePassX 0.4.3 released (updated)

KeePassX 0.4.3 has just been released.

It fixes a serious regression introduced in 0.4.2:
Editing groups doesn’t work and might crash the application.

Please Download the new version if you have already upgraded to 0.4.2.
A Mac OS build will follow shortly.

Update:
Mac OS build is available, Windows build is on my todo list.

Update 2:
Windows build is available, Mac OS build has been updated to fix the wrong version number.

Speaking of Mac OS X, could you please add version 10.6 to the download page? KeePassX works with Mac OS X 10.6 but some users get confused if 10.6 is not explicitly mentioned.

  2. eugenez says:

Do you plan to compile a Windows version of KeePassX?

  3. Sloshy says:

@eugenez KeePass is the original version of this, originally for windows. Just download the 1.X version program and it should work flawlessly with your KeePassX databases.

  4. Max says:

Please add a feature to open/minimize KeePassX window by hot keys. It would be very handy.

  5. Aaron says:

@eugenez there is a windows version already, go to http://keepass.info

  6. Niko says:

Yeah i know that there is also KeePass version which you can use, but i don’t want to! I just want to use the same program i use on Linux and on Mac, on Windows and that is KeePassX. So please make stop making Windows version of it.

    • Rob says:

The Mac version lacks a number of Windows features, including the ability to store passwords in the root folder and auto-type in form fields. It also doesn’t support the kdbx format and the xml file I tried to import from my Win version wouldn’t work. Had to drop to a 1.0 version export. Bottom line, don’t WinHate.

  7. Anton says:

What is up with the missing builds for this version?

  8. buddyAholly says:

Thanks for building a Mac version! When you unpack the .dmg though, it’s v0.4.2 instead of 3. Could you repack?

  9. eugenez says:

Guys, thanks for the advice, of course, but I’m not asking about that. I want to use the same program in different systems (I have computers with Windows, and with Linux too). KeePaasX 0.4.1 for Win exists (http://sourceforge.net/projects/keepassx/files/KeePassX/0.4.1/KeePassX-0.4.1-win32.zip/download), why not compile latest version for Windows?

    @Niko – totally agree

  10. Niko says:

Oh sorry i just saw, that the last sentence in my other post, means not what i wanted it to mean. I wanted to say, please don’t stop making Windows version of KeePassX.

  11. Lonnie West says:

I’ve been using the 0.4.0 for the last year to keep my passwords in sync between my Mac and my PC (yep, saving the KeePassX file in my DropBox folder!).

I have to agree with Niko and Eugenez: please keep the Windows builds coming! I know I’ve recommended this to several users like myself that use both Macs and PC’s, and this is by FAR the best way to have a clean and simple password management solution that works across both platforms.

  12. Stephen Mikesell says:

I’m not sure what point people are making, but as I understand it, KeePass for Windows and Linux are developed by two different teams. So raising questions over the Windows version in the KeePassX site is like going to General Motors to talk about your Ford. They both get you to the same place, but they are two different vehicles. 🙂

(I also use both builds interchangeably.)

  13. eugenez says:

    @Stephen Mikesell

See /src/main_win32.cpp in sources archive (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/keepassx/keepassx-0.4.3.tar.gz). It is cross-platform software, and comparison of GM and Ford have nothing to do with it. IMHO.

I am another person who would like to use the Windows binary versions of the latest KeepassX. I know there is Keepass which is more suitable for Windows, but Keepass 1.x doesn’t have support giving icons to individual entries and Keepass 2.x relies on .NET (I sometimes need to access my passwords on public computers where .NET is not available. KeepassX is the best solution for me in that case.

Please keep the compiled Windows versions coming.

  15. Arnau says:

When opening the KeePassX-0.4.3.dmg is displayed the KeePassX-0.4.2 not KeePassX-0.4.3, is this normal?

  16. Borut Maricic says:

Really, why is there still no 0.4.3 for Windows? I know that this question has been asked and I am aware of some answers. But, I am also one of those that want to use completely the same program from Linux and from Windows. I do not want to care about possible future inconsistencies between the DB formats and the like. I simply want the KeePassX and I want to be able to install the last version of it both under Linux and under Windows. So, where is the problem, why is there still no KeePassX 0.4.3 for Windows? Thank you.

  17. phil says:

forget it! i dont think there will be a windows version in next time… you should switch to another PW manager on win machines… i dont use keepassx anymore… sorry, but, thats the downside of free open source development: the developers can do what they want! please dont misunderstand me, this fact is completely okay! its another development method… but here you can see what problems can occur for the users.

  18. s_t says:

I also am looking for KeePassX for Windows.
I know all about KeePass for Windows, but I depend heavily on the XML import in KeePassX and, whether in principle the XML import is identical or not to that of KeePass (and I can find no information on this point) to import data which does not originate in a KeePass/KeePassX export; it originates from another program that was designed some time ago to produce KeePassX-compatible XML. I don’t want to take the risk of using some other XML import; I’d much rather continue to use KeePassX on Windows.

This is not a complaint; I acknowledge all the excellent work done by the volunteers who produce this excellent code. It is simply a message of support for maintaining a Windows build of the lastest KeePassX. Obviously a lot of people use it and like it.
    Thank you

we want KeepassX 0.4.3 for Windows…
we need KeepassX 0.4.3 for Windows…
    we love KeepassX…
    do not abandon us…
    please…
    make it.

  20. SniperBeamer says:

    Please cool down.
Just because there is a new version doesn’t mean the old one suddenly stopped working.
I will provide a windows build soon.

  21. bdmayes says:

The version in OS X is wrong simply because I misunderstood sniperbeamer when I built it. We released 0.4.2 and due to a regression we had to fix and repackage. I assumed we were going to release it as 0.4.2 again but I guess he decided to release it as 0.4.3 instead.

I will repackage as 0.4.3 and upload the new build — it just requires an update to 2 different source files so it is a very simple change to make.

  22. eugenez says:

    Thanks for build for Windows!

  23. unsacred666 says:

THANK YOU so much for the win build!!!

  24. s_t says:

Thank you for the Windows build; we appreciate it.

  25. ray says:

thank you! but it crashes very often doing “sort groups”. os x 10.5.8
