KeePassX

KeePassX 2.0 has arrived

We’re proud to announce the first stable release of the KeePassX 2 series after several years of development.

KeePassX 2.0 is using the new .kdbx (same as KeePass 2) database format.
You can import your .kdb database from 0.4 from the Database > Import KeePass 1 database.
This is a one-way process though. You can’t migrate back to the .kdb format.

New features include:

  • Multiple attachments per entry
  • Add custom key/value pairs to entries
  • Open multiple database in one window

KeePassX 2.0 has been rewritten from scratch so some features (like showing expired passwords) are still missing.

The important changes compared to beta 2 are:

  • Improve UI of the search edit.
  • Clear clipboard when locking databases. [#342]
  • Enable Ctrl+M shortcut to minimize the window on all platforms. [#329]
  • Show a better message when trying to open an old database format. [#338]
  • Fix global auto-type behavior with some window managers.
  • Show global auto-type window on the active desktop. [#359]
  • Disable systray on OS X. [#326]
  • Restore main window when clicking on the OS X docker icon. [#326]

You can fetch the new release from the downloads page.

To build from sources on ubuntu you additionally need to install the qt-sdk package.

    sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake qtbase5-dev libqt5x11extras5-dev qttools5-dev qttools5-dev-tools libgcrypt20-dev zlib1g-dev qt-sdk

Otherwise it’s complaining about Qt4 dependencies.

KeepassX has made great progress with 2.0.

Unfortunately atleast for me and I believe for many others it is pointless without support for Keepasshttp to conveniently enter credentials in the Browser.
There is an open ticket for implementing it but there is zero progress, only some user-built linux fork.

Until something better arrives for Mac OS X I have to stick to KyPass Companion…

    Best Regards

Do I miss something or there is no way to open a based database ? How can I share ma passwords between devices ?

    Diego

  12. Diego says:

Sorry … read “a networked based database”. My database is on a private ftp (no dropbox or whatever). With keepass, I was able to open an “url” ftp://ftp.myserver.com/mybase.kdbx.

    Is this feature depreciated ?

    Hello,
    great work!
    When https://launchpad.net/~keepassx will be updated?

  14. sindbad6 says:

Thanks for your nice work. Is it possible to add the release to your ppa at launchpad? That makes it easier to keep the software on state.

Opening several database at once is fantastic! KeyPassX is great work.

One suggestion: add a button to download website’s favicon. The button would take place in “Icon” panel, and use current Entry’s URL, if any. I’ve done that manually a dozen of times and it’s boring. There might be some extra care to take when loading the icon, I don’t know how code can be vulnerable to a poisoned image file.

Thank you for maintaining this terrific project. One question:

KeePassX 0.4 has an “Entry Details” (3 pane) view, which is very useful. Will that be added to KeePassX 2?

Thank you so much. Been using for years.

Hi, great to see this update.
Loving keepass on my hated windows work machine, I’d love to see autotype on Macintosh.
    please…
