Global Autotype for OS X: at last!

Will do. One more patch that users may find useful is to add the boolean LSUIElement to the Info.plist file and set it to true. This will keep KeePassX out of the Dock and out of the application switcher list that comes up when you press command+tab. Without auto-type, it makes sense for KeePassX to be in these locations when it's running, but now that we have this feature I think it's best to just keep the UI hidden until it's needed to add new logins. Thanks again!

@easye1161
Before that happens, an alternative method for reaching certain functions need to be written. Some functions are only reachable from the drop down menus, such as settings and bookmarks. Although everything may be reached by keyboard shortcuts, it's customary to provide the user with a way to reach every aspect of the application through clicking.

Otherwise I totally agree.

This is almost working for me. It works in browsers/terminal windows but when I try to use it in the RDC application Cord, all it types is the first letter. I've explicitly put in "Auto-Type: blah{ENTER}", which successfully types "blah" into terminal/textedit/safari but on the RDC login screen, it will just type one character then the return. If I don't put in the "{ENTER}", it just types in one character and sits there. I've payed with the delay settings and they don't help.

Thanks.

Have you tried prefixing the auto-type string with {MACSENDKEYCODES} ? See the last paragraph of the first post in this thread.

Let us all know if this works.

You Sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. That works perfectly. Next time I'll read the entire thread, not just the last few pages.

Thank you.

Help!

Postby Miggwilson » 29 Jul 2012, 16:48

Hi.

I downloaded Global Autotype for OS X. Went well with the installation. I then copied over my password database .kdbx from my windows pc to my mac. It would not open. I changed the extension to .kdb on the file. Then when I try to open it...I get an error message 'wrong signature'? Its the same file and password from my pc. Did I do something wrong? Thanks!!

Ah, you are using KeePass version 2. KeePassX is unfortunately quite a bit behind and is still on version 1. And the databases differ.

There is one guy who has been working on KeePassX version 2 for more than a year. It is coming along but not fully here yet. And for OS X, someone will have to port my Auto-type code to it. I don't have the time. But the source is available for anyone who wants to do that.

I have never used version 2 - version 1 has been fine for my needs - but perhaps you can export your passwords from version 2 and import them into KeePassX for OS X. I have not looked into that but you might give it a try. This might be a better solution than some completely different password manager than you use elsewhere. The KeePassX for OS X that I pointed to works very well. You could create a new DB for it and put in a few examples just to try it out and see how it would work for you.

Sorry I cannot give you a better answer.

On my pc which has version 2.x, I did an export which allowed me to select version 1.x and in the .kdb format. I copied that to an external drive and moved it over to the Mac. Dropped it in document folder, opened up your OS X at last version, pointed it towards the .kdb file and it worked.

Now I can continue to use one system on all devices...Mac, iPhone, iPad, and desktop PC. Thank you for all the help. I'll be sending a donation to you today. Keep up the great work!!

:P

Just sent you $10.00 US funds. Thanks again!!

I am having trouble selecting a global autotype hotkey. When I go to the settings, it looks like the field is disabled, and is greyed out.

You can barely tell in this picture, but the field is unclickable. How can I fix that?

Thank you, with this feature KeePassX should be great!

EDIT: I finally found a post in this thread that helped me. You need to click on the field and then just type a key combo, it doesn't indicate that you need to do so, but it works.

I have another question though. Are the links in the first post of this thread the most up to date versions of this application?
