Linux - Mono - Ugly font rendering

Linux - Mono - Ugly font rendering

Postby Ux64 » 29 Dec 2009, 16:58

Am I the onlyone who thinks that font redering is ugly under linux?

I'm sorry if this more mono issue than keepass issue. I think it is bit of both. But I made quick googling and I didn't find any proper guide how to change font and if font is controlled by app or mono or so. Keepass als happens to be only app that I'm using with mono so I'm not aware of details.

Could someone please point out URL to proper FAQ or give some hints how we can deal with this.

- Thank you!

Edit: There seem to be quite many other issues with focus, clipboard etc with Mono. So app really isn't in useful state yet.
Keepass version: 2.09
Mono version: 2.4.2.3

kw: ugly fonts, under, linux, ubuntu, keepass2, keepass 2, etc...

Ux64,

I think you missed with forum ;). This is forum for KeePassX program, which uses Qt, not Mono/.Net ;)

You're absolutely right. Sorry about that. I was thinking that KeePassX (Keepas 1.##) would be naturally supported supporting KeePass 2 for "X" with Linux.

I thought that Keepass 1 and 2 would be same continuum. But as it happens in open source, it seems that projects are completely(?) separate.

Thanks for notifying me about that. I really didn't think that deeply.

I'm currently using KeePassX because that KeePass2 is ugly. And I don't really need it that much right now. But with Windows workstations I'm using it. Which is causing some problems because now I naturally can't read it's new format.

Hopefully now I posted to right forum. ;)

Why don't you just use either KeepassX for Windows or Keepass 1.x on Windows? This way you will have matching databases.

Thats what I have been doing for years. But I would like to use Keepass2, my real problem is that font problem. And I would like to get it solved. Of course there are other possiblities, like what you described etc. But that's not what I asked for.

Thanks for the hint anyway, someone might need it.

I am asking this question because I sincerely don't know, I'm not trying to bicker and most certainly not passive aggressively asserting my opinion on your choice - is there an advantage to using KeePass 2? what is it that makes it preferable to you? :?:

No advantage really. That's just why I'm using keepass 1 in Linux environments. Then I'm using Keepass 2 in Windows environments. Keepass 2 offers some new features, but I can't name any of those that would make any real difference.

This font rendering issue is just an issue that I noticed. And it would be nice if it would work properly.
